How to Outshine your Competitor

Bruce Wilkerson writes the following in his book: “The Dream Giver”

He defines what a “gimper” is, and how the definition of being a gimper changed his life;

“A  gimper is someone who always does a little more than what’s required or expected. In the furniture business, for example, gimping is putting the finishing touches on the upholstery, patiently applying the ornamental extras that are a mark of quality and value”.

 

So, the question I want to ask you today is, Are you a “gimper?” Do you do the bare minimum in your business, or do you consistently take time to go above and beyond the competition?

Here are some ways you can shine in your industry

Customer service:

always be there for your customers. Don’t make them wait for a response if they contact you. If you use voice-mail, be sure to answer all requests with 24 hours, always. Two hours is a better response rate. Ten minutes or less is ideal. Why is getting back to your customers so important? It shows them honor. And if you are on of the few businesses who takes response time seriously, you will be a gimper.

Another way you can be a gimper is to regularly: get feedback from your audience. Rather than running test after test and paying for market research, determine what your customer wants by simply asking. When you make use of polls and surveys, you keep your pulse on the desire of your customer so you can better serve them.

Few business owners rely primarily on public demand for forming their business strategy. When you do, you’ll be a gimper.

“Internet Marketing Program”

When most people Google in “internet marketing program”, they are looking for a program that will teach them how to sell their product online.

And, they are looking to be successful.

If they have no money at all, they are looking for free information.

Dear reader, I so feel for you. Let me pull back the curtain and tell you what you are in for…..every time you sign up for free info, you are getting stuck on some marketer’s email list, who will most likely send you nothing but plug after plug, plea after plea, to buy his lame, info-less product.

He has no desire what so ever to tell you the truth or to see you succeed. He only wants your moolah.

Once he gets it, he will send you some marketing information, but never enough to complete the whole marketing puzzle. You may sense some truth to what he is saying, then spend a whole wad of cash, only to discover that he didn’t tell you enough to become successful at all, only enough to make you realize that you still need more marketing info.

I think it’s time for information marketers to drop the nonsense and start telling their people the truth.

Here it is: you are going to need a whole lot more than several $50 tutorials to pull you through the process. What you need is a real education. A system that is really a system; comprehensive, with your entire future in view.

One of the ironies of marketing education is, the newer you are, the more important it is to get a premium education. Think about it: if someone was illiterate, it would take more time and training in the beginning to teach them how to read, then it would to teach them how to teach themselves how to read even better. That’s because, once they had the fundamentals of reading down, they could understand how to read the next budget priced module.

In the beginning, you may not know enough to decipher that “who else wants to make a million dollars NOw!”internet marketing program, that tells you one tactic that worked for them. And they don’t bother telling you all of the fundamentals they had in place before they implemented that single “secret” (hmmph!) strategy of theirs.
It’s time that marketers start telling the truth!

It’s not enough to learn:

  • Afilliate marketing
  • email marketing
  • website design
  • search engine optimization
  • conversion techniques…in and of themselves

All of these elements need to work together. To really succeed at this, you need to learn the guts, the essence, the innards of each of these and then, more importantly, you need to be systematically shown how all of these things work together.

That’s called integrated marketing and it’s the only way to really be successful online.

The Silent Skill of Discernment

Is the subconscious aware of what’s going on because of a continual flow of facts which are too numerous to consciously analyze….but subconsciously tallied, sifted, and assessed?

Or is there something more at work here? Is there some supernatural element of insight given by the “universe to all human beings?

Whether it comes about through mentally stored experience, peripheal awareness, or quick snippets of supernatural insight, all of us have experienced the phenomona of intution; it’s the dynamic whereby you know something, but you just don’t know how.

In decision making and strategizing, this is called “discernement”.

Discernment is a quality which is lacking in a lot of internet marketers. And that is sad, because there are so many marketers who know so much, but yet don’t understand how to apply what they know, in which situation. Maybe you “get” the fundamentals of web design, and best marketing practices. But maybe something in your gut is telling you, “do it this way…this time”. You see, that is something that all of the information in the world can’t give you. And that is what you need for your internet marketing business.

When I give people advice about their situation, I don’t just rattle off some pre-formatted script of directives. I don’t just use a spreadsheet of info and go with the highest batting average. That’s because, in internet marketing, there are far too many variables at stake to rely solely on data. Sometimes something just feels off with a certain strategy. Almost always, the client feels it too. That’s why they call a mentor for clarifiction.

If you do internet marketing consulting for your clients, you should exercise individual discernment with each case you take on. The truth is, with mentoring and consulting, there is no “one size fits all” approach.

How to Create a Dynasty

Inside of every internet marketer is a desire to set the world on fire by being a trail-blazer and a game changer.  Internet marketing is the buzz word that screams, money, success, and power. Most people see within internet marketing the potential to put a product in front of the masses, and  to pull in sales like a money-making, automated wealth machine.

Affiliate Detox|How to Sell anything Online

When students sign up for my internet marketing consulting, I generally need at least three sessions to detoxify them from the “merits” of affiliate marketing.

Affiliate, are you making great money? Because if you are, and if you are ethical, then I am 100% pro-affiliate marketing.

But. If you have to put up “recommendations” that are really just biased reviews (which is almost always true, unless you liked the product before you became an affiliate), or, if you find yourself recommending one product over another on your “review” site because the commissions are highter (rather than the product you are “reviewing” really being better), then guess what? You really aren’t operating in integrity; you are just making a  buck and calling it a review.

What’s worse is, you probably are NOT getting paid much at all due to the fierce competition in the market (and the time it takes to make money).

And here’s the thing I always stress to my students who are affiliates;  You are not selling anything. You don’t really have a business. And when I tell them this, there is this look. It looks something like this: You are just a negative person who doesn’t get it.

And when I get that look, I just want to shake them and say, “no, Joe (Sam or Sarah). YOU just don’t get it; you could be making SO much more money selling your own items on line.

And then, they just don’t believe me. Which is why affiliates have to pay a higher price for my consulting serives

a. They take longer to convince

b. I have to clean up their online reputation and

c. When they invest enough in my consulting, then they HAVE to listen to what I tell them.

And that’s the only way I will do business with an affiliate.
