The Best Game Plan for your internet Marketing Business

Does your game plan keep disappearing from day to day, and getting replaced with the latest trick? Here are some common lies that are being promoted on the internet. Do you believe this internal dialogue?

“The best marketing plan for my business is one that gets me lots of followers on Facebook”

(next)

“The best marketing plan for my business is one that brings me traffic.”

Okay. That’s a good start. Let’s go on.

“The Best Marketing plan for my business is one that actually makes me sales, already!!

…you’re getting warm…

“The Best Marketing plan for my business is one the makes me Money, for crying out loud!

Partially true…read on…

The Best Marketing plan for my business is the one that actually makes me a profit…

…you’re almost there…

“Sue, what are you talking about? You don’t think it’s important that I make a profit”?

Let me explain–

If you get lots of people who:

  • like your product,
  • follow you on Facebook, Twitter Instagram…everything
  • and who visit your website

and who even buy from you
but
what you spend in:

  • advertising
  • webhosting
  • software
  • “opportunities”
and other expenses—-if those expenses are deducted, and they actually DO bring you a profit, then you still have some math to do…because…

it really isn’t profit if your time isn’t paid for.

So. Let’s say that you make 25,000 a year in PURE PROFIT.
Let me ask you something….is the time you invested in making that money worth more than minimum wage? Because, if it is, then you didn’t even make that.

See, a lot of marketers are very good at bookkeeping, but they live in this carrot-on-the stick fantasy world.

They may not measure their success (like so many marketers do) in terms of social media activity, traffic or even sales, because they have been around the block, so to speak, and they have learned that it isn’t what you make, it’s what you keep (after buying leads, paying for ads, etceters.)

But one thing that almost every marketer struggles with is putting value on their time.

A lot of marketers are retired, on disablility, or just self-employed. So they don’t figure in the value of their time, because they just think, I’m not doing anything else with my time right now.

But time always has value, no matter how much of it you think that you have.
We would never hear of someone underselling their product because they have too much money on their hands. Yet marketers consistently undersell their product because they don’t factor in the value of their time, when they go to price their product.

You need to see the value of your time the way that a physical shop owner would price his “overhead”. You may not have the mortgage, lights and gas to pay on a separate building, you may not have inventory to account for, but you can be sure, if you are an internet marketer, you spend plenty time on your business each week.

And what a lot of marketers fail to do is to track the time they actually spend on their business, not taking into account basic things like creating a post, checking their stats, ect. All of these tasks are YOUR TIME that you are INVESTING in your business. You need to account for that when you figure out your profit margin.

How to Succeed in Internet Marketing.

Decide exactly what course in internet marketing you are going to take.

There is SO MUCH to do that falls under the umbrella of internet marketing.

Internet Marketing does not just mean selling online.

It can also mean, making money by selling ads on your website.

It could mean, making money by referring people to a product, consultant, or to a specific service.

If you build websites for other people, and collect payments at their office, that is still considered an Internet Marketing job, because you are selling them a product that they will use online.

So then. Before you start Googling in “How to succeed in Internet Marketing“, you first need to define what exactly you want to do in the field of digital marketing (note: digital marketing is just another name for internet marketing).

Each week, I’m going to detail the pros and cons of different internet marketing paths. Stay tuned…

Evaluating the quality of your internet marketing education

woman_magnifying_glass

When you are first starting your online business, you want to make sure that you are getting the right kind of information at a price you can afford. You want the education you are receiving to be the best it can be, and highly relevant to your particular business. And, you want results.

Hiring the complete services of a very good marketing agency would be the fastest way to get your business going. But definitely not the cheapest. A marketing agency will outsource all of the necessary work or do it with their own team. They will outline a plan for your business, and just do it all for you. Most new business owners can not afford this option at first.

If you are looking to learn how to market items yourself, you can hire a recommended “guru” to coach you and show you step-by-step how it’s done. Mentoring is hands down the best way to learn internet marketing and in the end, is almost as expensive as a marketing agency, but with the benefit of an education.

Consulting is always a good option if you just want someone to tell you what they think. Consulting may be done by the hour or a complete day, and if it’s really consulting it should just be you, not a group of people, getting advice from the expert. Note: many consultants refer you to other people for the services you need. And they get a commission for doing so. Beware of the quality of such referrals and ask the consultant if they are getting a kick back

Next best thing is a personal road map of your business. Not all coaches will do this and the reason is they either don’t know how, or they don’t think it’s as thorough.  A road map of your business is a written blue print or flow chart which tells you in written form what you should be doing, in what order.

If you can’t afford any of these specialized services, then you need to self-educate through free online tutorials or paid modules. The problem is, no matter how detailed the information is, it still isn’t going to tell you when to use it, or in what order.

The approach I take for my internet marketing program, is to provide a step by step system that takes you through each process needed to get your business online, looking good, getting traffic and making sales.

When you self-educate off of the internet, you may find it hard to know which style to use in marketing, and how to integrate all of these tutorials together.

But when you have real help from an expert, they can lift you above the clouds and show you the whole picture from a seasoned angle.

Seven steps to internet marketing success

  1. Know your market–This is called your “target” market, and it just refers to that group of people who most likely will want what you are selling.
  2. Find your Niche—Niche is just a term for a specialized market or a market within a market. For example, if you only sold blue roses, that would be a niche market.
  3. Choose your product—or, it should read, “choosing the right product”. You need to look at current trends and you need to see what product is likely to sell in the future. For example, if you sell computers, you might not want to put all of your focus on a computer system that is likely to be outdated in 3 months.
  4. Choose the right platform to sell your product on–Websites are NOT the only platform to promote your product or service on.
  5. Attract Visitors—This is just another term for “driving traffic” to your product online.
  6. Convert visitors to sales—This is done via proper marketing and sales strategy. I cover all of this in my book
  7. Upsell, and get referrals.

Continue this sales process and your profits will increase.

Self-guided Ecourse|How to Sell Anything Online

The self-guide Ecourse is not some program you just download; it’s an actual online course, with a start and end date. The next class “How to Sell Anything Online”  begins  on June 24th–  it’s a four-week course.

Update: 6/23/19–this Internet Marketing Course is now full. Read on for details on future class times.

You’ll receive daily assignments and lessons along with practical examples, and “keep on track” checkpoints to make sure you aren’t neglecting any one part of your marketing strategy.

This self-guided program is “step-by-step” simple, and foundational in its approach. We take you from “easy- to -breezy” in no time.

Skills you need to know before you begin

You must know the following basic computer skills before beginning this course: “Cut, copy, and paste”; using a text editor; minimizing and maximizing a computer; the difference between an address bar and a task bar, and how to open a new “window.”

A good qualifying question to ask most of you is: Do you know what a browser is? If you don’t, then you definitely need to brush up on these skills before beginning.

Also, if you are new to the computer it’s a really good idea to take a beginning computer course at your local library. Most library computer courses are completely free of charge.

When does the course start up?”

Orientation begins June 24nd. Payment must be received by the 19th

Note: This class is now full. Details of the next class are at the bottom of this post.

What will I learn?

You will be taught how to find your niche, how to position yourself online as an expert, how to sell online immediately, (yes, immediately) and how to build a high quality blog and website. We also cover basic SEO and traffic techniques.

Who will benefit from this course?

Those marketers who need help in getting their online business started, developed, or off the ground will benefit. If you already have a blog or website, and you aren’t doing really well yet, this course will review the basics to make sure your website is following “best practices” for search engine optimization.

If you have a quality blog with some traffic but would like more traffic, then you should go with  a more customized course, such as the Internet Marketing Blueprint.

But, if you are highly motivated, if you are just getting started at internet marketing, or if you just have gaps that need to be filled, and you are okay with asking for help rather than being checked up on, then we welcome you to join this self-guided program. Next class begins July 3rd.
